Precision Hobby Tools Inc. was incorporated in 1995 as KD Engineering Inc. The managing partners were Konstantin Dravnieks (P.E. Engineer) and Loretta Roetz (Operations Manager).

The Electro-File^TM was developed, prototyped and patented by K. Dravnieks in the early 1990’s to fill a basic tool need for working on design prototypes and models.

K. Dravnieks needed a reciprocating tool (not a rotary tool) to accomplish controlled precise cuts either on the working edge of a project or in the middle of a project. He felt this tool should accommodate flat shank (saw blades) and round shank attachments (needle file) to make it more versatile. He also felt this tool needed to be compact, lightweight, durable and well balanced. What resulted far exceeded expectations. The Electro-File^TM not only allows the user to saw, but it also sands and files with each of the various attachments. It’s patented counter-balance mechanism allows for a fully utilized and smooth working stroke. There is no knocking or kicking back motion created by the reciprocating action. 

In August of 1998 Loretta, and husband Tom, took over ownership and operation of KD Engineering Inc. with the goal of re-tooling the Electro-File^TM into 2 new versions. One would be a detachable battery pack and the other would run continuously using a 120VAC to 24VDC adapter. The company name was then changed to Precision Hobby Tools Inc.

The detachable battery pack version was introduced in July 1999 and the electric version was rolled out in March 2000. Both models have been enthusiastically well received in the marketplace. The Wonder-Cut Saw was added in January 2003 to rave reviews. This unique saw combines the best attributes of a variety of hand saws to earn it's own place in the market. We continue to add versatile, hard to find, quality tools to our product lines. We are always open to customer feedback and suggestions.
